On Economic Development
I recently attended a conference in Raleigh;
Rural Day, which was organized by NC Rural Center.
This conference provided three timely topics:
- Broadband, and how rural counties and municipalities could best move forward in implementing the required infrastructure.
- Healthcare, and what can be done to reduce the number of uninsured.
- Small Business Development, and what rural counties and municipalities can do to promote it.
Christopher Chung, CEO of Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina delivered the opening remarks for the small business segment of this conference.
Economic development organizations and stakeholders would be well advised to consider aligning their endeavors to Mr Chung’s recommendations.
He delivers a message of, “A Balanced Approach for Economic Development” and tells us that, while business recruitment may be a high visibility approach to economic development, we must also prioritize:
- Business start ups
- Support for growing existing businesses
“…remove barriers and provide resources for small business start-ups.”
Watch Christopher Chung’s short, but important message:
